0-NO!

After the New England Patriots completed a 16-0 regular season last year, today the Detroit Lions completed the first 0-16 season, bettering (?) the 1977 Tampa BayBucs 0-14 season. Everything that could go wrong did. No offense, bad defense, and all around bad play by everyone. Not a record I'd want to be associated with!

Time Machine-From Thurday’s Show

If you had a Time Machine, what events would you want to go back to?  Would you want to alter the course of History?   I've been thinking, and here are some of the things I would want to do, not in any order:

1:  Go back to 1776 and observe the deliberations leading up to the Declaration of Independence

2:  Go back to 1787 and observe the Constitutional Convention

3:  Go back to 1793 and watch the striking of the first US coins

4:  Go back and observe the ministry of Jesus

5:  Go back to the Summer of 1985, one of my best years

6:  Go back to the time of the Roman Empire and watch all the history it made

7:  Go back to WW 2 and watch some of the battles

8:  Go back and see my parents when they were kids

9:  Go back to 1969 and watch the first moon landing live

10: Go back and watch several historical sporting events

The Things We Do For Love

I saw this thing on the news yesterday where a woman donated a kidney to her Fiancee.  That is truly a love story!  Could you love someone so much that you'd donate a body part?  If the one I loved needed a transplant and I was compatible, I would, but since I only have one kidney, I couldn't do that!

Hunting Season

This week, deer hunting season has come to West Virginia.  There are plenty of hunters around here, and it sounds like a war zone outside, with gunfire on a regular basis.  The noise hurts my ears, and scares my dogs like crazy. My Dad's been a hunter all my life, so I should be use to it, but my poor ears!

A Cold Night

Last night was not a very comfortable night here. Our furnace broke down so the only heat we had was a little electic heater inthe Parents' bathroom and my electric blanket. It was in the 20's here last night, so I thought I was gonna freeze! In my room, you could see your breath! The electric blanket worked good, but sometimes in the middle of the night, you gotta get up! Thankfully, my Dad got the furnace fixed, so things are a bit warmer tonight.

Election Wrap up

Now that the election's over, here are a few observations:

Obama will be a good President, if he surrounds himself with good advisers, and sticks to his guns when disagreeing with the far left members of the Party.

He also needs to keep his word about working with the Republicans. Even though he's going to have a big majority in Congress, no need to give the opposition any ammunition.

Race didn't seem to be as a big matter as it was supposed to be.

Other things:

One Republican I'm glad is definately gone:

Elizabeth Dole: How can you call a Sunday School teacher Godless?

2 I hope are gone:

Sen. Saxby Chambliss of Georgia: How can you live with yourself calling
Max Cleeland unpatriotic? He took a grenade for his fellow soldiers in
Nam, losing both his legs and 1 arm. If that isn't patriotic, I dont know what is.

Rep. Virgil Goode of Virginia: Racist SOB who slammed Keith Ellison for being
a Muslim.

What were her constituents thinking:

Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota: is 53% of America Unpatriotic?

2 in the wrong place at the wrong time:

Rep. Chris Shays of Connecticut. This year's version of Lincoln Chafee. Good
guy, wrong party, wrong state.

Senator Gordon Smith of Oregon: See above.

Get out and Vote!

For all my American readers:

Tuesday is Election day. If you're registered, get out and vote! Doesn't matter who you vote for, Democrat, Republican or whatnot, just do it! It's a right and a responsibility. If you don't vote and don't like the results, you have no reason to bitch about it.

How To Wreck Your Chances Of Being Elected

1: Combine your Presidential Nominee, who had a good chance of winning, with a nutjob VP
candidate who doesn't even know the duties of the VP.

2: Have said running mate and 2 other nutjob members of congress (See Bachmann, Michele and
Hayes, Robin) say that all members of the other party and their Presidential Nominee are
unamerican and should be investigated.

3: Spread rumors that the other Party's Nominee is a Muslim, not an American Citizen, and
a terrorist.

4: Fail to calm the mobs at your rallies who call for the hanging of the other party's nominee.

5: Have your Nominee's brother call part of the state of Virginia, a state you need to win,
Communist Country.

Racism Is Alive And Well in the US-from Tuesday's Show

Even in the 21st century, racism is still alive and well in the US. We don't want to admit it, but it's there.

For example, a few weeks ago in Cumberland, MD, a town about 50 miles from where I live, a High School football game between Cumberland's Fort Hill High and Dunbar High of Washington, DC was ended when the Dunbar coach pulled his team off the field after claiming that his team was being taunted with racial remarks by the Fort Hill Fans. This is still under investigation, and other schools have cancelled games with Fort Hill. If these claims are true, I don't blame the coach for his actions. This isn't the first time I've heard of stuff like this happening in Cumberland. After 9-11, some Idiot put up a sign that said “10,000 towelheads for each American” I saw that sign with my own eyes, and it totally disgusted me. It totally blemished the memories of the 3,000 who died that day, and gave racists more fuel for their bigotry. Also, all over the US, there have been reports of people being discriminated against because they looked Middle Eastern.

More disturbing, last week, At a John McCain rally, someone called for Barack Obama to be hung, and all sorts of other nasty things have been said about him, which I won't dignify, You've all probably heard about them. NOBODY did anything to stop these people. It reminded me of a lynch mob or KKK rally. Politics aside, this gives ALL Americans a bad name. Like it or not, The US is a melting pot, and unless you're a native American, your ancestors came from somewhere else. It's a shame that this vile crap still goes on in a country as great as ours.

A matter Near and dear to my heart-from Wednesday's Show

Tonight, we're going to discuss a matter near and dear to my heart, School Bullying. As you all my know, my school years were virtually ruined by people picking on me because of my weight. Let me tell you, folks, it CAN have a lasting effect on kids that are subjected to this torture. Bullying can lead to a lifetime of low self esteem, preventing a person from obtaining their potential. I'm exhibit A-1 for that. It should NOT be tolerated at all by school officials or parents! Here are some things I think should be done:

1: Parents-LISTEN TO YOUR KIDS! If you have a child that tells you that they're being bullied, the
last thing you need to tell them is ignore them and it will go away. From my experience, it just
makes things worse. Go to the Principal and demand that something be done. If they don't listen,
go over their heads to the school board.

2: School Officials-Also, Listen to the kids! Get the offender into the office and tell them that if
bullying happens again, they WILL face discipline. Ignore the parents who say “Oh the kid's lying
my Little Angel wouldn't do that” if you have proof that they did.

3: Parents of bullies: Get your kids help! If you knew how much it hurts the kid that your kid's hurting
you would want it to stop.

This epidemic has got to stop! Over the years, we've seen what happens when bullying goes unchecked. Does Columbine ring a bell?

Hail To the Redskins

My Washington Redskins are 4-1 after 2 road wins agains division rivals Dallas and Philly.  I am impressed at how QB Jason Cambell's game has improved over his first 2 seasons. He has yet to commit a turnover, and has made several quality passes.  The rest of the offense, lead by Running Back Clinton Portis and Reciever Santana Moss, has adapted well to new Coach Jim Zorn's  system, and the defense has been outstanding. The skins should be 6-1 after their next 2 games against league doormats Cleveland and St. Louis.

Bank Bailout

This weekend, Congress, the President, and the Federal Reserve came up with a $700 billon bailout of the banking/mortgage Industry, with the money coming from you, the taxpayers.  What do you think? Good idea, or bad?  Personally, I think it's bad. Why should we fix something that was caused by the industry giving mortgages to people who could not afford them.  When you take out a mortgage, most of the time the bank you get it from sells it to another company, and makes a profit on it.  I don't think we need to be fixing their mistakes.  Businesses die all the time, and you dont see the Governement helping them out.

Losing My Religion

For 11 years, I've been a Christian, but over the past few month's, I've started becoming quite disillusioned.   To me, it seems like Christianity is being taken over by extremists who try to use God's word for their own purposes.  You have the Jerry Falwells and Pat Robertsons of the world who stir up hate and conflict.  As an example, right after the 911 attacks, Robertson said it was because the US tolerates gays, abortion, and feminists.  There were 3,000 killed on that day. Tell me friends, how many of those that died do you think were associated  with any of those activities?  I really don't think that God would allow thousands of innocents to die to make some sick point.  Also, the extremists have also worked their way into the US. Government, and are making policy based on religion and not the US Constitution or national laws.  The Iraq war is a good example of that, I don't think I need to elaborate on that much more, hopefully you all have kept abreast of events the past few years.  I remember in 2004, a minister kicked several members of his church out for voting for John Kerry.  That is intolerable to me, as it takes away one of the most fundamental rights we as Americans have: The right to vote for whoever we want, without fear of retribution. If my Pastor ever made that demand of my, I would quit the church immediately!

Another thing that gets on my nerves is the way that some  “so called” Christians berate other faiths.  Didn't Jesus preach humility?  Thinking that your faith is superior to others and that those that are members of another religion are trash is hardly a display of humility! I could never do that.   I respect every person, no matter what their religion, race, or nationality.  So...my faith is getting quite strained.

An Idea I'm Toying with

A long time ago, I tried to write a murder mystery. It was based on my days in school, having the main person, a guy who was picked on all the time, getting framed for the murder of one of his main enemies. I packed it away and forgot about it till I found it a couple days ago, and I though that it would be fun if I started work on it again. I'll let ya all know what happens and might post a bit of it on here if I do anything.

A Blast From The Past

When I was a kid, I loved to play games on the Atari, and later, on my Commodore 64 computer. This week, after doing a bit of searching online, I downloaded emulators for both, and the actual game Roms that people have ripped from the original game cartridges and disks. So far, I've found a lot of my favorites, like Pac Man, Missile Command, Space Invaders, and a bunch of others. Takes me back to plenty of fun times in my childhood!

Ovie the MVP

Although they didn't win the Stanley Cup, my Washington Capitals did make off with some NHL hardware tonight!  Alex Ovechkin was named league  MVP after leading the NHL in goals (65) and points (112). In addition, coach Bruce Boudreau, who came onboard in mid season with the Caps in last place overall in the NHL and lead them to a 37-17-7 record and Southeast Division title, was named Coach Of The Year.  Hopefully, this year's playoff run will be the first of much more improvment for the Caps.

Let's Get Ready To Rumble!

In a few minutes, for the first time in 21 years, the ultimate sports rivalry will be renewed: Celtics Vs. Lakers in the finals. Can Kobe Bryant prove that he can win a title without Shaq, or will Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce win their first title?  This one could  go the full 7!

If This isn't an outrage, I don't know what is!

I was reading an article  about a Florida kindergartener who has special needs was voted out of the class  by the other kids, and the teacher was the one who suggested it.  This teacher should be fired and if I were the kid's parents I'd sue the school for all they were worth. School is supposed to be for learning, not to be picked on!  here's the link to the article:

Follow Up to last Sunday's post

I'm about ready to take my last dose of antibiotics. The swelling in my face is gone, and so is the itching on that bite mark. Dang, those ticks are everywhere around here!

What A day

Today was a rough day. On Friday, my Mom pulled a woodtick off my neck. Well, she didn't get the head of it, so the spot got infected, and I had to go to the Dr. to get it taken out and I'm on antibiotics for a week. You could tell something was going on, because my face was swelled up a bit where the bite was. So much for a nice quiet weekend!

Finally Justice

I'm very pleased that the lady in Missouri who caused her neighbor's teenage daughter to commit suicide by making a fake Myspace account that said she was a 16 year old boy, said that he/she was interested in the girl romantically, then started picking on her is going to be prosecuted. How could someone be so cruel? She said she wanted to find out why the girl and her daughter were no longer friends, so why not just go to her and ask?

Getting Down And Dirty

Update

I've finally made some headway in my battle against my weight! Over the past couple of months, I've lost 12 pounds! I've done it with the help of a pill called Alli. Alli works by keeping your body from digesting some fats from the food you eat. Now that the weather is turning nice, I'll be able to go for walks again.

If it's NHL Playoff time....

Then it means my Washington Capitals lost another multi-overtime Game . Philly beat them 4-3 in 2 ot's last night, the Flyers now have a 3-1 lead in the series. Why can' t the Caps win one of these long games? It's strange. Must be the Curse of Pat Lafontaine. Lafontaine, who all Caps fans detest, started this string back in 1987 with his famous 4 OT winner for the NY Islanders.

Funny Kid Stuff

As you may know, my Mom watches Luke and Levi, the 2 year old twin sons of our preacher. Well, they like to get into everything. For some reason, they have this fascination with the cans of dog food that are in the kitchen closet, and they like to stack them up and make towers. A couple of weeks ago, Luke was in there playing with them, and Levi came along and knocked the tower down. Luke grabbed him by the cheeks and said "didn't I tell you not to do that?" Ahh, out of the mouth of babes...

Red White, Blue, and HOT!!!!

After 5 years of languishing in the basement of the NHL, my Washington Caps are Southeast Division Champs! 65 Goal Scorer and probable MVP Alex Ovechkin, super rookie Nicklas Backstom, Super Soph Alex Semin and the rest of the Caps, lead by coach Bruce Beudreau, open up the playoffs next week against the Philadelphia Flyers. The teams split the season series 2 games apiece, and this is their first playoff meeting since 1989, when Philly upset the Caps in 6. It's a safe bet that Christobal Huet, who went 11-2 after arriving in a trade will get the start in goal, over longtime starter Olie Kolzig. I predict that the Caps will prevail in 5. Hopefully, after knocking off the Flyers, the Caps wont have to set foot in the state of Pennsylvania until next season. The Pittsburgh Penguins are also in the playoffs, and every true Caps fans know that everytime they play the Pens in the playoffs, something weird happens, and the Caps blow a 2 game lead in the series.

Whoops!

How do you mistake a helicopter battery for the nose cone of a Minuteman Missile? Taiwan had purchased a supply of helicopter batteries from the US Army, but somehow, they got the nose cones instead! These cones contain the trigger for the missile warheads, so this was a major screwup, giving away nuke weapon technology. China is probably highly displeased!

A Nice Day

It was a nice, sunny day here today! Spring is just around the corner!

Monday, March 03, 2008

Talk about depth!

Bruce Boudreau, coach of my Washington Capitals, has a pleasant dilemma, with 3 quality goalies, who do you give the playing time to? Consider:

Choice 1: Olie Kolzig: Owns just about every Caps goaltending record, former 40 game winner and
former Vezina Trophy winner, lead the Caps to the 1998 Stanley Cup finals, been part
of the organization for 20 years, 2 time All Star.

Choice 2: Brent Johnson: Quality Backup, can give you good play if he has to play for prolonged
stretches, tied and NHL record with 3 straight playoff shutouts in 1 series when a
member of the St. Louis Blues.

Choice 3: Christobal Huet: Newly acquired, 22 wins between Caps and Montreal, 2007 All Star,
Led NHL goalies in save percentage 2 years ago.

Since the Caps are in a playoff race, one of these guys needs to step up and play well. Johnson is the only one of the group signed for next year, so contracts are on the line too.

Hitman Email

Today, I received im my email the Hitman email. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's an email scam where someone emails you saying that a friend has hired this person to kill you, but they won't if you send em $50,000. I've seen on the news where some people have actually fallen for this! Idiots on both sides!

My Least Favorite Teacher

For Algebra in 1oth and 12th grade, I was taught by a fellow named Bruce Campbell. I could not stand the man! Don't get me wrong, he was a good teacher (even though I suck at Math), but his people skills were sorely lacking. He was an older guy, musta been in his 60's cause he talked about serving in WW2. He did not like ANYONE, and nothing ever satisfied him! He never had anything good to say about anyone, and even if you made straight A's, he could make you feel like shit. Yours Truly was not immune to his charms. One time we were working on something that needed graph paper, he was watching me and said "you gotta be pretty dumb, you can't even draw a straight line with a ruler!" But strangely, in 1oth grade, he gave me a math book as a gift for perfect attendance, and on my last day with him before I graduated, he wished me good luck. The man was a mystery, that's for sure!

The Last Straw

Dear Peter Angelos:

Until today, I had been a fan of your Baltimore Orioles. For the past 10 years, you have ran the team into the ground, and after today's trade of Erik Bedard, the O's best pitcher and an earlier trade of Miguel Tejada for minor leaguers who are years away from making any impact, I am convinced that you are no longer interesting in fielding a competitive team. The Orioles have not had a winning season since 1997, and until you sell the team and quit your interfering, I'm afraid things are going to get worse and the 2008 season and further years could be even worse then 1988 was.

Undefeated No Longer

I'm glad the Super Bowl Is over. I was getting tired about hearing how good Tom Brady was, and how the Patriots were going to run all over the Giants. It was a good game, but games are played on the field, not in the sports columns.

Getting Back To Business

This weekend, I was looking through my books and found my old Stamp Album. I guess I'd been so wrapped up with my coin collecting, i forgot about it! Looking through it, I hadn't updated it since '99. Got a lotta catching up to do. If any of you have any old envelopes with stamps on em, let me know if ya wanna get rid of them.

The Greatest Ever?

So my Readers that are sports fans:

Do you think the 2007 New England Patriots are the greatest sports team of all time? They're a Super bowl win away from completing a 19-0 record. Tom Brady set an NFL record with 50 TD passes, Randy Moss catching a record 23 of them, and they scored at a video game pace. Do the Giants have a prayer against them? Their last meeting was close, a 38-35 Pats win a few weeks ago.

More Adventures In Babysitting

Yesterday, we had to watch all 6 of Pastor Dan and Holly's kids while they went out on a date. I tell ya, I didn't think my sanity would make it through the night. Don;t get me wrong, they're good kids. But you put 5 kids less then 10 together, you get lots of fights, yelling, and sticking their noses into stuff where they shouldn't. After a bit of TV, they got bored, so they got into what ever they could find. Sarah, the oldest at 13, was pretty good though, she helped keep the boys in line. All in all it was pretty fun though!

How Stupid Can You Be?

Aggrivating a Tiger with a slingshot, is that dumb or what? Evidently that's what those guys that got attacked by the Tiger in San Francisco did. I don't like seeing anyone get hurt, but if you do somethin dumb like that, you'd better be prepared to get your butt in trouble!
