The Big Topic For This Show was:

Swine Flu Outbreak

The Choking Dog Can Clear Its Throat For A Bit!

After having had it done to them so many times, Monday night my Washington Capitals defeated the New York Rangers 2-1, coming back from a 3 games to 1 deficit in the series. Maybe the Caps luck is finally turning! Next up in round 2 is the series everyone (Except me) wanted, as Washington takes on Pittsburgh. It'll be a series pitting the NHL"S best player, the Caps Alex Ovechkin, against another top one, the Pens Sidney Crosby. This should be fun! What worries me though, is the Caps terrible luck against the Pens in the playoffs. They've won one series, but have blown 3-1 leads in 2 others. In the 2008-2009 regular season, the Caps won the season series 3-0 with a shootout loss.

Rockin' The Red!

After winning their second straight Southeast Division title,  my Washington Capitals begin their first round playoff series against the New York Rangers tonight.  The Caps won the season series against the Rangers 3-1, including  a 5-4 overtime win in which the Caps came back from a 4-0 deficit.  Should Washington get by the Broadway Blueshirts,  their season record against the other Eastern Conference playoff teams:

Boston Bruins: Caps won series 3-1 including each team winning an overtime game.

New Jersey Devils:  Caps won 2-0 with a Devils shootout win

Carolina Hurricanes-Split season series 3-3

Philadelphia Flyers: Split season series 2-2

Montreal Canadiens- Caps won Season series 2-1

Pittsburgh Penguins-Caps won season series 3-0-and 1 shootout loss.

Should the Caps Make it through the Eastern Conference , and make it to the Stanley Cup Finals, here’s how the Caps did against Western Conference playoff teams

Detroit Red Wings-Caps won only meeting this season

Chicago Blackhawks  Ditto

Columbus Blue Jackets- Col. won both games, getting shut outs from super  rookie goalie

                                     Steve Mason in both contests.

St. Louis Blues- Caps won only meeting

Calgary Flames- Cal. won only meeting

Vancouver Canucks-Caps one only meeting

San Jose Sharks (Won President’s Trophy for having NHL’ s best record)  SJ won only meeting.

What the Caps have to do to succeed :

Goaltending: Jose Theodore  has never lost a first round playoff series.  He needs to step up

          Should we advance.

Avoid OT (Especially multi OT games)  The Caps have not won an overtime playoff game

since Joe Juneau’s goal in OT of  game 6 of the 1998 Eastern Conf. finals  sent the Caps to the finals.  They have lost 5 in a row since.

Avoid the state of Pennsylvania: Bowing 3-1 series leads again the Pens twice, Losing to the Flyers in 7 games last year, need I say more?

This should be interesting!

Protecting Our Kids

After watching the Caylee Anthony, Haileigh Cummings, and Sandra Cantu Cases, something really has to be done to protect our

kids from rapists and murderers. It’s getting out of hand.  Here’s what I think needs to be done.

1: The Sex Offender laws really need to be revamped.  I’m sure that there are Police and prosecutors who’d rather spend their resources on finding a  missing, murdered or raped kid then going after some 16 year old who got a blow job from their 15 year old girlfriend, or some 13 year old who sends boob shots taken with a cam phone to their friends.  Prioiritze!

2:  Increase Penalties!  I know it doesn’t sound fair to hold someone in jail after their sentence is up, but we all know that sex offenders can’t be cured, so they need to stay locked up for good. Seems like released offenders do the most damage.  For those who murder, give them an automatic death penalty.

Off To A Good Start!

My Baltimore Orioles got off to a good start to the 2009 season, beating the New York Yankees 10-5.  The game was a good all around team victory.  Starter Jeremy  Guthrie  allowed 3 runs in 6 effective innings, Newcomer Cesar Izturis hit a 2 run homer, and catcher Gregg Zaun  had a hit in his return to Baltimore.  The other bright spot was that aside from Chris Ray giving up a 2 run homer after missing last season due to elbow surgery, the Bullpen did it’s job, unlike most times last season.  After a day off tomorrow, the O’s will unveil their new Japanese import, Pitcher Koji Uehara, who is scheduled to start Wednesday’s Game.  Hopefully the string of losing seasons will be stopped at 11.
