It will be due to the amazing game Cedric Mullins had against Seattle on Sunday.  In the 9th he prevented a game tying homer (the next batter hit one, so it saved the game) and in the 10th he hit the game winning   2 run        homer.  This has been a season to remember for the O’s!

No More Gimmicks

I’m not a fan of the runner on 2nd base to start an extra inning.  It’s too easy to score. All you have to do is bunt the runner over with no outs, then you have lots of ways to score the runner from 3rd with 2 outs to go.  If that’s successful, then the  home team has to score at least 2 in the bottom of the inning to win.  It gets a bit too predictable.  Wins need to be earned.  Give me a good 18 inning game anytime!

A Painful Memory

One night when I was 9 or 10, Dad got called out on emergency job to fix something, and for some reason, Mom went with him.  That meant that my sister Lori was left in charge of me. I don’t like to speak ill of the dead, but Lori was never the responsible type.  I fell asleep on the couch, and when I woke up, I went looking for Lori. Hearing music coming from her room, I went there and opened the door. Boom! I feel something hit me on the head, and next thing you know, I find myself laid out on the floor, and blood coming out of my head, and Lori screaming at the top of her lungs. What had happened was that she had (after over 40 years, I still have no idea how she did it) balanced a stereo speaker on top of her door, and when I opened it, down it came on my head. I ended up with a bunch of stitches in my head, and one heck of a headache!

Time To Break Up The GOP?

The Republican Party in its current form cannot remain a viable entity as long as the crazies are allowed to run the show.  Perhaps it’s time that ordinary common sense R’s such as Chris Sununu and John Kasich form their own conservative party, and leave the MAGA nuts such as Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert to fend for themselves.  It ‘s good for a country to have more than one political party involved in government, but when one is hijacked by a throng of conspiracy theory spouting lunatics, something has to be done.

We Were Warned That It Would Happen….

And it did! The assault on Speaker Pelosi’s husband by a right wing extremist proved those who said that the current poison being spewed by election deniers and anti-government crazies would get Government officials or their families hurt or killed were right.  This is intolerable, and law enforcement needs to take each and every threat seriously, before it gets worse!

The Best And The Worst

My favorite teacher was my 10th and 12th grade English teacher, Mrs. McGann.  She treated all of her students with respect, and told me that she watched me to gauge if what she was teaching was sticking. Don’t get me wrong, I’m probably the biggest reader in the world, but what the heck are you supposed to learn from Romeo And Juliet?  I always wanted to ask her that, but never got the chance.

On the other end of the spectrum, we have Mr. Campbell, my 10th and 12th grade Algebra teacher.  He was a total ass.  He treated us all like garbage, and told me once that I was so stupid, I couldn’t draw a straight line with a ruler.

Proud Of You Guys!

After most pundits said that they’d lose 100 or more games for the third time in the last 4 years, my Baltimore Orioles will have a winning record this season, after winning their 82nd game on Sunday.  Despite trading fan favorite Trey Mancini and All Star closer Jorge Lopez, the O’s found ways to win.  With a young lineup lead by Rookie Of The Year Candidate Adley Rustchman  and infielder Gunnar Henderson, and a young starting rotation led by Veteran hurler Jordan Lyles (If his option is picked up) and a possible mid-season return by Injured ace John Means,   and a bullpen led by closer Felix “The Mountain”  Bautista, I can’t wait to see what next season brings!

This Is Getting Fun

Because of an 8 game winning streak, my Baltimore Orioles are only 1 game below .500, and about a week or so from surpassing their total number of wins from 2021.This week has been a wild one, with the O’s winning 3 games in walk-off fashion, including Friday, when they scored 3 runs in the bottom of the ninth with an insane 4 straight 2 out, 2 strike hits.  This team is giving off vibes and memories of the 1989 Birds, who a  year after the infamous 0-21 start to 1988, fought for the division crown up until the final weekend, just coming up a bit short.  Even with an additional wild card, they might not make the playoffs, but when you aren’t expected to be competitive, sometimes just having fun and playing your best can give great results!

If I Were Running For Office…

Which I can’t because it takes money, here are some things I’d campaign on, not in any particular order:

1: No one is above or below the law

2: Women are not property, what she does with her body is her own business

3: Does someone marrying a member of the same sex cause me harm? NO!

4: You have a right to your religious beliefs, but you don’t have to right to force them on others.

5: There is nothing wrong with wanting the police to do their job and not kill innocents.

6:  Compromise is not a dirty word.

7:  You shouldn’t have to choose between paying your bills, having food, and affording medicine.

8: Time in the hospital shouldn’t force you into bankruptcy.

9: Corporations are not people.

10: Above corporations and millionaires should pay their fair share of taxes.

11: There is only a finite amount of fossil fuels left in the earth, renewables are the way.

12: It is not illegal to seek asylum.

13: We have a right to our opinion on our president, it is not unpatriotic to criticize them.

14 : We are all human, no matter what color, religion, or nationality we are.

 

I Don’t Like These Gimmicks …

Used these days to determine overtime sports games.  I survived tied Hockey games and watching the Orioles play 18 inning games on the West Coast, which usually start at 10 PM my time and ended around 3 in the morning.  If they go to using a free throw contest to decide Basketball games, I give up!
