Courtesy Of Wil Wheaton
Wil Wheaton originally shared this post:
These are two typical Chris Brown supporters on Twitter: barely-literate, vulgar, blaming the victim, and blinded by celebrity. This makes me so sad.
He beat Rihanna so severely, he put her in the hospital, and there are people in the world who are totally okay with that because he’s a famous musician who can dance. Well, I am not one of those people. Violence against women is never, ever, ever okay. It is unforgivable, and it should be unforgettable. Chris Brown should be shunned for the rest of his life, as should all batterers.

Dropping The Ball
The Washington State Child protective services failed miserably when it came to the Powell kids. The visits to their Dad should have been made in a neutral . place, like a park or restaurant. In fact, Josh Powell should have never been able to see his kids, because there was kiddie porn on his computer, in addition to the fact he was the prime suspect in the disappearance of his wife. Instead, 2 young boys are dead, and we may never know what happened to Susan Powell. You can’t fault the social worker, though. She loved those boys and did what she could.

Courage And Beating The Odds
Props to 2 athletes who last week displayed lots of courage. 1st is Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton, who manned up and admitted that he had a slip up in his well known recovery from Alcohol and drug addiction. Then you have NY Giants linebacker Mark Herzlich, who played in the Super Bowl 2 years after being told he might lose his leg to cancer, but made a recovery from that disease. May they continue to be good role models!

This should not be, having young kids being arrested in school for ticky tack offenses like doodling on a desk or burping. Have school admins become so afraid of another Columbine?

A Coin and a Bill With A Story
These were given to me by my Dad when I first started collecting. He found the 1957 B $1 Siver Certificate in a trash pile, and the 1923 Peace Dollar that judging from the hole in it was being used as jewelry was found by him in a sewer when he worked for Fairfax County, VA.

Are There Any Honorable Men Anymore?
A Friend of mine, who just found out a few weeks ago that she is pregnant, was dumped by her husband, and is having complications because of the stress. I could not do that! If I was married, I’d be in it for the longhaul!

Hanging With The Undead
With True Blood, The Twilight movies, The Vampire Diaries, and other TV shows, vampires are becoming popular. What is it about them? Would you date one? Would you fall in love with or marry one, knowing that he/she is immortal and you aren’t? And if it got that far, would your love for him/her make you think of asking them to turn you in to a vampire, so the 2 of you could be together forever? And if you were a vampire, how would you use your powers? For good or for evil? Since you would be immortal, what would you do to keep from becoming bored of your existence?

Stand Your Ground
Could you take a life to save a life? Last week’s daring defense of her home by Oklahoma Mom Sarah McKinley, who shot and killed an armed man who was trying to break into her house was a good example of self defense used properly. If this writer had been in the same situation, even though he’s uneasy around guns, he would have done the same thing, to protect himself and his family. A man/woman’s home is their castle, they have a right to defend it if lives are in danger.
On the other hand, does a person who is being bullied have the right to use deadly force against said bully? A Florida high schooler who was being assaulted by a kid who had been bullying him for months stabbed him to death. The judge said that the state’s stand your ground law and self defense applied, since the kid had a reasonable fear that bodily harm was going to happen. As always, these events should always be judged on a case to case basis.

Some Fan fiction, straight from my Keyboard
A “What If” From True Blood Season 1 EP. 10: If Bill had resisted his sentence, and escaped the Magister’s tribunal , rescuing Jessica and not turning her.
The girl looked like she wasn’t more then 16 0r 17, Bill estimated. Those vampires who had brought her to the tribuanal clearly had roughed her up, judging from the bruises on her face and arms, and her red hair was in a mess. She was totally frightened out of her wits, praying and babbling on. “Mr. Compton, my records show that you’ve never been a Maker, is that correct?” the Magister coldly inquired. “Yes, that’s correct,” Bill replied in a low voice. “You know the process, do you not?” “Yes I do.” “Then proceed.”
“I’m a Christian, Jesus will take me to Heaven”, the girl kept saying over and over. “What’s your name?” , Bill asked, not being sure if he even wanted to know. “Jessica,” she answered, “Jessica Hamby.” Smiling, Bill told her “Look at me, Jessica, look in my eyes, it will be OK.” The glamouring took its effect, and Jessica calmed down. “Excuse me, there is no glamouring aloud here, get on with it!” the Magister growled. “She’s just a girl!”, Bill protested, baring his fangs. “Get on with it, and do as you’re told!” the Magister hissed, looking like he was about ready to rip Bill apart himself.
Screaming, pleading, Jessica crawled on the ground, trying to get away, But Bill grabbed her, pulling her neck back, extending his fangs, preparing to bite, her, beginning the transformation.
In the split second before his fangs bit into Jessica’s flesh, his mind was racing. “No!, I will not condemn this sweet girl to an eternity of hell like I’ve been through!”, He thought to himself. Cradelling her in his arms, he he leapt high into the tree tops above and when he landed, he became nothing but a blur as he ran at probably the fastest he’d ever ran since his own turning.
After making sure the coast was clear, and that none of the other vampires were folllowing him, Bill stopped in a small alley in the middle of whatever town he had been forced to come to to receive his sentence. Jessica had fainted, and was still out of it, so he waited till she woke up, planning his next move.
“Thank you, Sir”, Jessica whimpered as she fully woke up. “You saved my life. I guess not all vampires are bad like my Daddy said.” “No we aren’t all bad, Jessica. Some of us want to live in peace with humans. The ones who took you don’t. Now ,I’m going to do something to you, so you won’t remember what happened. Look into my eyes, I will make all this go away.” She looked into Bill’s eyes, and her mind became his. “Jessica, Tell me where you live. I’ll take you home and you will invite me into your home. You will tell your parents that you were out for a walk, and that you were attacked by a man who roughed you up, but I happened to be passing by, and I stopped him, and I’m bringing you home.”
After taking Jessica home, and glamouring her family so that they believed her story, Bill had to plan what to do next. The dawn was coming, so he had to find somewhere to go to ground soon. He couldn’t go back to his house, since the Magister had probaly ordered Eric, as Sherriff of the area, to find him, and stake him on the spot. He found a wooded area far from the outskirts of town, and dug in for the day.
The next night , Bill rose, walked till he found a parking lot full of cars, knocked out the driver, took his keys, and hit the highway, heading as far away as he could get.

All He Does Is Win
Denver Broncos Quarterback Tim Tebow Is Having Quite A Ride! He’s 7-1 As A Starter, With several come from behind wins. He is hitting on less then %50 of his passes, but he has a 13-1 TD To INT Ratio, and is one of the top rushing qbs. He is becoming one of the qbs who his team knows that any given game, He’ll give you a chance to win. Plus, he is a fine witness of the Christian faith, and has impressed everyone with how he shrugs off all the criticism. If he can improve on his passing, look out! He will be a star for a long time!

Reading about a church in Kentucky who told an interracial couple they couldn’t participate in church activities or become members. Some Christians they are! Going too Far?
Here Is an article about an 8 year old who was taken away from his Mom because he weighed 200 plus pounds. Do you agree with this? This should be only used as a measure of last resort, in this writer’s humble opinion. Weight loss is a tricky thing. If this Mom had been feeding him garbage all the time, not getting him exercise, then maybe he needed to be taken out of the home while he mother got counseling and help. But if he had been genetically predisposed to being big, well that is a whole different matter. Perhaps Mom could be taught to reduce his portions and make healthier meals.

Could You Be Bullying Others? (Operation Bullyhorn’s first blog post from Tumblr)
by Katharine Royal on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 12:33pm
I’ve been given a lot of interesting topics to blog about for the next few days/weeks and, for me, the one that has hit home most so far is whether a person can be a bully without necessarily even realizing that their behavior could be categorized that way. The answer, quite simply, is YES.
Allow me to explain. So many times, when people hear the word bullying they think of the big kid in the schoolyard or in the halls at school that shakes smaller kids down for lunch money, knocks them up against lockers, calls them names, etc. It’s EASY to understand this kind of behavior as bullying. That said, there are MANY other types of bullying that go on today beyond even just name calling and physical harm to another.
For instance, have you ever been in the supermarket, school, the mall, even at church, and seen and heard people talking about what somebody was wearing, what they looked like, or something they did in a negative way? Maybe it was a remark about the person’s weight. Maybe it was the way their voice sounded or their word choice, and maybe it was a wardrobe malfunction they may not have known about. Making jokes about such things, even if the person in question doesn’t see to be able to hear you, is a form of bullying.
So where is the line between good natured ribbing and bullying? Well, ask yourself this question. Does the person involved think it’s funny; or as the old saying goes, are they being laughed at, or laughed with? If the person doesn’t know they are being talked about, they can’t be laughing with you. If they do know, do they seem uncomfortable? Sometimes people will laugh out of uncomfortability, not because they are really finding the situation funny. If you’re not sure, don’t do it. If you don’t know if the person finds it funny, err on the side of not wanting to be a bully.
Going along with this, there are two specific phrases I hear used again and again that have become so ingrained in some people’s vocabulary that they don’t even seem to realize they are saying them….and yet this language is VERY bullying language.
First, likely everyone has heard people describe things or people as "gay" and not meant by that that it’s a person who loves somebody of the same gender. "Gay" is a word that sadly often get used to mean stupid, lame, effeminate, dorky, etc. When this word is used to mean anything other than a person who loves somebody of the same gender, it’s offensive and is bullying behavior. Same with another all too common one that even I find myself slipping into every now and again; the blonde jokes. They’ve been around for decades, and are normally in good fun. It’s easy not to even think of jokes like that in terms of bullying, but truly there are a great many people who are very offended by the thought that people consider others less intelligent because of something as trivial as hair color.
Lastly in the word department for the moment is one that’s gained wide-spread attention of late due to members of the cast of Glee — the word "retard" or "retarded."
Up until fairly recently these were words used by doctors to descraibe a medical condition affecting somebody’s mental abilities. Most medical professionals stopped using these words a short time ago largely as a result of all the stigma that has grown from them.
Much like the usage of the word "gay," "retarded" and "retard" are VERY overused in society. Even in casual conversation, it gets thrown around by people to describe anything from a silly behavior to somebody perceived to be stupid. Along with it’s usage are often phrases like "window licker" and "short bus"….even at times references to helmets and the pointed use of the word "special."
Most people when they say things like this, like with the word "gay" aren’t really meaning that the person in question has a medical condition that affects their cognitive function. That said, as somebody who DOES have a medical classification which led to that word being one I was called frequently growing up, I know first hand how damaging it is. Most people, when they say it in a casual, "joking" context are merely meaning "that was a silly thing to do" or "that was something that didn’t seem to make a lot of sense that person did." However, for so many things perceived as negative to be referred to by the use of a name originally intended to classify people with a disability is quite damaging to many people who hear the words being thrown around so casually.
So here’s the simple thing you can do. Realize EVERYONE messes up. Heck, I still say things all too often that I then catch myself on and realize it could easily have hurt somebody even if it didn’t mean it hurtfully. You’ll never be perfect.
That said, you CAN and SHOULD do your best. You have a cheat sheet here. Even if you just start by trying your hardest simply to avoid the things mentioned here, you’re off to a GREAT start. Don’t beat yourself up if you mess up, just be mindful. It may help to have a group of friends to hold one another accountable on these things. They may seem minor to you, but stopping the use of words and phrases and behaviors like this will likely help save a life.

Be Fruitful And Multiply?
Reading about Bob And Michelle Duggar, the reality tv stars who are the parents of 19 with 1 on the way. Why would anyone want to have 20 kids? I know that they are religious people, and good family people, so that’s probably one reason. There’s nothing wrong with that, as long as they’re doing it because they want to have a big family, and not because they want to take advantage of the system. It used to be that large families were the norm, but these days. with all the economic problems, is it feasible? A large number of pregnancies has got to put a strain on a woman’s body. Here’s hoping that they have a healthy baby!

Driven Under By Scandal
Joe Paterno was right when he said he should have done more. Even if he didn’t understand what his graduate assistant said he saw former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky doing with a 10 year old kid in the shower at the Penn State locker room, he should have at least did some investigating. As for the other times he was told, and told his bosses, he could have at least checked back in a few days and seen if they had done anything, and call the police if the hadn’t. Technically, he did the right thing, but morally, he really should have followed up. He, the college president, the 2 officials who were charged with perjury, the grad assistant, and anyone else involved should be ashamed with their actions. Hopefully Mr. Sandusky will get the book thrown at him, and spend the rest of his life in jail. Also, let’s not forget the kids: They were between 8 and 13 when this happened. NO kid should have to go through abuse, especially at the hands of an adult that they trusted. Hopefully, they can/are getting therapy for this, and they can have a good life.

My weekend was a total bust. Because of a freak snow storm that hit here in West Virginia, we lost power from Saturday morning till 2 today. It is not fun not being able to do anything but read and sit around. No hot water to take a shower, limited ways of cooking, and it was pretty cold!

At long last, the end!
What do you think about our troops finally leaving Iraq? If the Iraquis are ready to take care of them selves, then it should be time for us to leave. Hopefully, the new leadership will be able to resist the influences of Iran and Al queda. This war has been 10 years, millions of dollars, and thousands dead. Was it worth it?

Do you think that the Occupy Wall Street movement will become a force as powerful as the Tea Party has become? The Middle Class and poor are getting tired of the rich getting richer and them getting less and less. It’s a shame that our country is getting this way. Can anything be done?

Meet Your Obligations, No Matter Who You Are
Another member of the party of family values has been busted! Illinois congressman Joe Walsh was recently hauled into court by his ex wife for not paying over $100,000 in child support payments. He was supposed to appear personally in court, but didn’t. When asked by the judge why he wasn’t there, his lawyer said it was because he was a member of Congress. Also, he lost his driver’s license for not having insurance. Why a bench warrant wasn’t issued for his arrest, I’ll never know. People, no matter if your rich or poor, politician or whatever, an obligation is an obligation, Meet it!

The Death Penalty-Pros and Cons
There are 2 executions scheduled for today. In Texas, one of the men convicted of dragging James Byrd to death will die. In Georgia, Troy Davis, convicted of killing a cop, is also scheduled to die, even though 7 of the 9 witnesses who fingered him have recanted. So do you think that Mr. Davis’ the execution should be at least delayed while the facts are analyzed. It won’t hurt anything. If he’s guilty, he’ll be executed. If the evidence is reanalyzed and found wanting, he’ll be a free man. That is the problem with the death penalty, you don’t have %100 proof in all cases.

10 Years Later….
It’s been 10 years since that day that changed the US. Do you remember where you were? How you felt? If you were like most of us, you probably were totally shocked and in a fog for days. Then you were both sad and outraged. It was good to see at least for a while the country come together, especially after the 2000 Presidential election. We were no longer Democrats or Republicans, Christians, Jews, or other religions, we were Americans. We wanted to get the man who ordered the attacks, not knowing that it would take 10 years, lots of lives lost, and 2 wars that are still going on. We tried to believe that not all Muslims agreed with the extremists. Then after a while, the novelty went away. Political divisions are back, those who opposed expanding the war were called unpatriotic (it should be considered unpatriotic not to voice opposition if done calmly), all Muslims are being painted with the same brush as the terrorists, and we seem to be more divided then ever. Hopefully, someday, we will have some sort of unity in this country.

My Dad……..
Has the worse luck with vehicles! 2 weeks ago, as he was getting ready to go on our church’s mission trip to Ohio, his truck blew up. he doesn’t know how much it will cost to fix it. Every truck he has owned the past 20 years has met a destructive end:
His current one possibly
The one before, was totaled when he went off a road after slipping on ice
the 2 before that one, both were wrecked by deer
And my favorite: his full sized Chevy in 93 that went up in flames when a spark from his lighter set off fumes from his gas can while cutting wood.
Common Sense?
Watching a trial on Tru TV dealing with an 8 year old who was allowed to shoot an uzi at a gun show, something went wrong, and the kid ended up shooting the back of his head off. Would you allow your 8 year old to shoot an automatic weapon? Maybe a single shot .22 or something, but not an uzi or any other automatic weapon! The put up too much recoil that a kid that small just doesn’t have the strength to handle. Just letting you know, despite my views, this is NOT an anti gun post. My Dad is a hunter and has several guns. I have no problem with responsible gun ownership!

There Really Is Some Good News Out There!
You hear lots of bad news these days, but there is some good out there. Like the lady who was paralyzed due to a pool accident caused by horsing around at her bachlorette party who finally tied the knot after a year of rehab, and the kids whos soldier father surprised them by returning from Afghanistan and coming to their school, and the wife who won a contest to throw out the first pitch at a ballgame and her soldier husband had secretly returned and disguised himself in umpire’s gear, surprising her at the game.

Historical What-Ifs
Sometimes, the course of History can be changed if something different happens. Suppose how things in our country would have went if…
1: George Washington decided to stay in retirement at Mount Vernon and declined either to lead the Continental Army in 1775 or accept the presidency in 1789.
2: After the South seceded, they either won the Civil War, or the North decided to say “Seeya” and peace was made, and there were 2 countries.
3: Had Lincoln survived, would Reconstruction had have been easier? Or would the Radical Republicans impeached him for his leniency towards the South as they actually did to Andrew Johnson.
4: Had the election of 1876 not been stolen by the Republicans, how would a Tillman presidency been?
5: Had the Republicans not been divided in 1912, could Taft, If reelected, or Teddy Roosevelt if his campaign been sucessful prevented the US from entering World War 1?
6: If FDR had been defeated for reelection in 1936 or decided not to run for a 3rd term in 1940, could his successors have kept us out of WW2?
7: Had FDR not died in April 1945, would he have authorized the dropping of the Atomic Bombs?
8: Suppose we had not dropped the Bomb, and we had to invade Japan, how much time would it have taken and how many lives would have been lost?
9: If JFK had not been shot, and served 2 terms, would Viet Nam have ended earlier? Civil Rights legistation passed? would we have had Nixon elected in 1968?
10: If not for Iran, would we be saying “Ronald Who?”
11: see no 4, Change it to 2000 election, how would Al Gore have been as president?
12: If not for 9/11 would GW Bush been reelected?
The Possibilities are endless..

The Jury Has Spoken
Like it or not, Casey Anthony was found not guilty of the Murder of her 2 year old Daughter Caylee. The American Justice System worked to perfection, though. The Prosecution and Defense showed their witnesses and evidence, the jury weighed the evidence, and found the prosecution lacking. There was simply not enough evidence beyond a reasonable doubt that Casey did it. Like it or not, that is how our system is supposed to work. If you don’t like it, try getting the Constitution changed. There were no winners in this case. Little Caylee is still dead, a family and a state torn apart. Some advice to Casey: Keep your nose clean, because everyone will be watching your every move. Quit partying, lay off the men, and try to make amends with your family, if possible.

Walking On Eggshells
One thing I can’t stand is people who you have to walk on eggshells around. There are people who make mountains out of molehills, and any little thing you say sets them off. They can be jealous that their lives are bad compared to other people’s (Or at least that’s what they think) , they also think that criticism is abuse, and also, they constantly say that people are out to get them, and when they move, they accuse their new neighbors of doing the exact same things. They are never happy about anything. What do you do about those people? At some point, do you tell them “Listen, life is not fair, get over it and get on with your life?
