I was interested to see that this is Banned Book Week.  In a country with freedom of speech and expression like the US, you'd think that the idea of banning books would not exist. But sadly, it's here.  My opinion: I know that some subjects are not appropriate for certain age groups, and there are subjects that you may disagree with , and that's OK. If you don't like it, DON'T READ IT!!!!   If I want to read something, I have the right to do so, without you putting your nose in my affairs. DON'T FORCE YOUR  MORALITY ON ME!  You take away 1 freedom, and the rest will follow...

Seems like the Republican Party has been hijacked by the extremist of  the Tea Party.  When you have someone like Utah Senator Bob Bennett, who is probably one of the most conservative members of congress primaried out of his job, you know that the crazies have taken control.  The extremists demand that all party members vote in lock step with their demands, and any bit of compromise is seen as a sign of being a sellout.  It remains to be seen if the Tea Party is a "Flavor of the month" Fad, if the sane members can regain control, or if the moderates are totally forced out.

A Funny/Embarrassing

At the house I lived in before we moved to West VA, the bathroom door knob didn't work too well.  When you closed the door, the knob would lock and not move sometimes.  One day, during my spring break in 7th grade, I woke up, went to the bathroom, and as I usually do, closed the door, even though I was the only one at home, and wouldnt ya know it, the door wouldn't open!  So here I am for a good 4 hours banging on the door trying to get it open.  Finally,  my Mom came home from work for lunch, and got me out, it was 1 in the afternoon and here I was still in a tshirt and underwear!

I think that these days, parents can be too overprotective.  Because of the media, a lot of parents think that there are pedophiles behind every rock, and that if a kid gets online, they’re going to automatically be bullied or molested.  So because of this paranoia, kids are prisoners in their own homes. As a lot of you may know, I am a big coin collector. I thought for tonight's monolog I'd give some tips for the beginner:

1: Where to start: You can start a collection from pocket change, having coins handed down from relatives,
garage sales, there are lots of ways

2: Recommended Books: Here are a couple of must have books for the collector:
A Guidebook of United States Coins (Also called the Red Book)

American Numistmatic Association Grading Standards

3: How to Store Your coins:

I recommend the Whitman blue Albums, don't use the ones with plastic slides in the hole, as they scratch coins.

Single coins can be stored in plastic holder, just watch out , some plastics can damage coins.

Invest in a good safe or a safe deposit box.

And Last But not least: DO NOT CLEAN COINS! It might make them clean, but it can damage a coin's surface.


You can Collect by denonination or design, the possibilities are endless!

The Best Caps Team Ever?

I think this year’s edition of the Washington Capitals is probably the best ever.  Even better then the one that went to the Finals in 98!  Since Alex Ovechkin was named Captain after Chris Clark was traded, they have gone on a tremendous run, including a team record 14 game winning streak.  Alex Semin, Nick Backstrom, and Mike Green are playing great Hockey, and newcomers Joe Corvo, Scott Walker, and Jason Chimera have chipped in.  My prediction:  we reverse the Pittsburgh curse this year, and we win it all!  A good note: Jose Theodore, who has secured the no. 1 goalie job, has never lost a first round playoff series.

Don’t Get Fooled

So The War Begins Anew….

Tonight as my Washington Capitals take on the Pittsburgh Penguins for the first time this season.  Last time we saw this matchup, The Pens  were victorious in a 7 game playoff series. The Caps Alex Ovechkin and the Pens Sidney Crosby  are probably the 2 best players in the NHL, and they really hate each other.  Washington is the leagues highest scoring team, with Ovechkin and Alex Semin leading the way.  Goalie Jose Theodore has played like a man posessed the past few games, finally playing like the former league MVP and Vezina Trophy winner  he is.  Looks like with Pens No. 1 goalie Marc-Andre Fleury out with a broken finger, former Caps Backup Brent Johnson will be between the pipes.  Hopefully it’s payback time!

Cold!

Man, it is cold!   I don’t think it’s gotten outta the 20’s this week. Sunday morning when we went to go to church, it was 13.  The way things are in this backwards little town, it’s time for the electric company to have to shut the power down to perform maintainance.  Seem like they always do that during the worse times: either during the coldest part of winter, or the hottest part of summer.

Why I Don’t Like College Football

I don’t like college Football because the way things are, if you lose 1 game, your season is essentially a failure, and you have no chance to compete for the title. At Least in the NFL, an 8-8 team sometimes has a chance to make the playoffs, and a chance to play in the Superbowl. Heck, in the NBA and NHL, you can have teams with losing records make the playoffs.
