Interesting Historical Fact

As a history buff, I’m impressed with this one:

Even though he was born in 1790, did you know that former President John Tyler still has 2 living Grandchildren?  Not great grandchildren, grandchildren.  Tyler was the Father of 15 kids by 2 wives.  His second wife was 30 years younger then him.  These Grandchildren are the sons of his youngest son, who was born in 1853, and they were born in the 1920’s.  Another odd fact, Tyler’s youngest child died in 1947, 130 years after his  oldest was born.

No Virginia, It Wasn’t A Hoax

No Virginia, It Wasn’t A Hoax

I was totally disgusted by a speech made a few days ago by North Carolina Congresswoman Virginia Foxx made during debate in the House about the Matthew Sheppard hate crime act.  Matthew, if you recall, was the Wyoming gay man who a few years ago was lured into a car by 2 guys who said they were gay, beat up, then tied up to a fence and left to die.  Mrs. Foxx claimed that Matthew was murdered not because he was gay, but because he was being robbed.  Kicker is, one of the men arrested said that they did it because he was gay.  Good God, if you were just robbing someone, why would you beat the hell outta them and tie them up to a fence, leaving them for dead?  Just goes to show you that the Republican party is nothing but a gang of homophobic, racist bigots.  Republicans, and some people who go to my church also say that this act will cause preachers who speak out against hot button issues like gays and abortion, even though THERE IS A CLAUSE IN THIS BILL SAYING THAT THIS ACT CANNOT BE USED TO INFRINGS ON SOMEONE’S FIRST AMMENDMENT RIGHTS.  Guess they only read the parts that they want to read.

The Choking Dog Can Clear Its Throat For A Bit!

After having had it done to them so many times, Monday night my Washington Capitals defeated the New York Rangers 2-1, coming back from a 3 games to 1 deficit in the series. Maybe the Caps luck is finally turning! Next up in round 2 is the series everyone (Except me) wanted, as Washington takes on Pittsburgh. It'll be a series pitting the NHL"S best player, the Caps Alex Ovechkin, against another top one, the Pens Sidney Crosby. This should be fun! What worries me though, is the Caps terrible luck against the Pens in the playoffs. They've won one series, but have blown 3-1 leads in 2 others. In the 2008-2009 regular season, the Caps won the season series 3-0 with a shootout loss.

Rockin' The Red!

After winning their second straight Southeast Division title,  my Washington Capitals begin their first round playoff series against the New York Rangers tonight.  The Caps won the season series against the Rangers 3-1, including  a 5-4 overtime win in which the Caps came back from a 4-0 deficit.  Should Washington get by the Broadway Blueshirts,  their season record against the other Eastern Conference playoff teams:

Boston Bruins: Caps won series 3-1 including each team winning an overtime game.

New Jersey Devils:  Caps won 2-0 with a Devils shootout win

Carolina Hurricanes-Split season series 3-3

Philadelphia Flyers: Split season series 2-2

Montreal Canadiens- Caps won Season series 2-1

Pittsburgh Penguins-Caps won season series 3-0-and 1 shootout loss.

Should the Caps Make it through the Eastern Conference , and make it to the Stanley Cup Finals, here’s how the Caps did against Western Conference playoff teams

Detroit Red Wings-Caps won only meeting this season

Chicago Blackhawks  Ditto

Columbus Blue Jackets- Col. won both games, getting shut outs from super  rookie goalie

                                     Steve Mason in both contests.

St. Louis Blues- Caps won only meeting

Calgary Flames- Cal. won only meeting

Vancouver Canucks-Caps one only meeting

San Jose Sharks (Won President’s Trophy for having NHL’ s best record)  SJ won only meeting.

What the Caps have to do to succeed :

Goaltending: Jose Theodore  has never lost a first round playoff series.  He needs to step up

          Should we advance.

Avoid OT (Especially multi OT games)  The Caps have not won an overtime playoff game

since Joe Juneau’s goal in OT of  game 6 of the 1998 Eastern Conf. finals  sent the Caps to the finals.  They have lost 5 in a row since.

Avoid the state of Pennsylvania: Bowing 3-1 series leads again the Pens twice, Losing to the Flyers in 7 games last year, need I say more?

This should be interesting!

Protecting Our Kids

After watching the Caylee Anthony, Haileigh Cummings, and Sandra Cantu Cases, something really has to be done to protect our

kids from rapists and murderers. It’s getting out of hand.  Here’s what I think needs to be done.

1: The Sex Offender laws really need to be revamped.  I’m sure that there are Police and prosecutors who’d rather spend their resources on finding a  missing, murdered or raped kid then going after some 16 year old who got a blow job from their 15 year old girlfriend, or some 13 year old who sends boob shots taken with a cam phone to their friends.  Prioiritze!

2:  Increase Penalties!  I know it doesn’t sound fair to hold someone in jail after their sentence is up, but we all know that sex offenders can’t be cured, so they need to stay locked up for good. Seems like released offenders do the most damage.  For those who murder, give them an automatic death penalty.

Off To A Good Start!

My Baltimore Orioles got off to a good start to the 2009 season, beating the New York Yankees 10-5.  The game was a good all around team victory.  Starter Jeremy  Guthrie  allowed 3 runs in 6 effective innings, Newcomer Cesar Izturis hit a 2 run homer, and catcher Gregg Zaun  had a hit in his return to Baltimore.  The other bright spot was that aside from Chris Ray giving up a 2 run homer after missing last season due to elbow surgery, the Bullpen did it’s job, unlike most times last season.  After a day off tomorrow, the O’s will unveil their new Japanese import, Pitcher Koji Uehara, who is scheduled to start Wednesday’s Game.  Hopefully the string of losing seasons will be stopped at 11.

What Was Your Most Embarrassing Moment?

Extreme Scary Pain

The most pain that I've ever been in was due to a fall that scared the hell out of me. We used to have a big solid wood table with even solider benches. One day a few years ago, I was stepping in the door when one of my dogs tripped me up. I fell forehead first into one of those benches. I thought i had broken my neck, because my arms and legs went totally numb, and I layed on the floor for I don't know how long till I could move. Luckily, no damage, though my arms tingled for a month after that.

Most Embarrassing Moment

What's the most embarrassing thing to ever happen to you? Mine happened when I was in the 1st or 2nd grade. One day at school, I was in the bathroom and the lights went out. I was afraid of the dark back then, so i screamed and ran out of the bathroom, with my pants still down! Got a lot of laughs!

Abstinence Only Is BS

Spring Training Is Here

Well the middle of February is here, and that means it’s time for Spring training to begin.  My Baltimore Orioles are coming of a 92 loss season in 2008, and have had 11 losing season in a row.  They’ve mad a few trades in the offseason, getting pitcher Rich Hill, utility man Ryan Freel, and signing IF/DH Ty Wigginton, but the biggest moves have been re-signing OF Nick Markakis and 2B Brian Roberts.  The one loss I won’t miss is the departure of the erratic Daniel Cabrera, who is now the Washington Nationals’ headache.  Hopefully the O’s won’t repeat the last 2 seasons getting off to a good start, then melting down.

Today’s Big Topic was:

The Institute Of Marriage: Is it obsolete?

Late President’s Day Stuff

Here’s my list of some of the best and worst Presidents:

Worst:

1: GW Bush: No explaination needed

2: James Buchanan: Call him Nero: He fiddled while the Union Collapsed before the Civil War.

3: Franklin Pierce:  His inaction also helped start the Civil War

4: Warren G. Harding:  All the scandals he and his people were involved in literally killed him.

5. US Grant:  Tool of Wall Street, Tried to run his administration like the army, better

      General the President.

Best:

1: Abraham Lincoln:  Gave his live to save the Union.

2: George Washington:  Layed the foundation for all others to follow

3: FD Roosevelt:  Dealt with probably more then any President.

4:  T. Roosevelt: Would turn in his grave if he knew what his Republican Party has become.

5:  Thomas Jefferson: A genius.

Big Shoes To Fill:

1: John Adams:  Tried to be Washington, was the victim of the first political party wars.

2: Andrew Johnson:  Almost too stubborn for his own good.  Got the last laugh with the

    radical Republicans.

What could have been:

JFK:  Could he have stopped Viet Nam before it got bad?

Zachary Taylor:  Could he have worked the factions on both sides and prevented the Civil war?

The Institute Of Marriage: Is It Obsolete?

This being the 21st Century, is the institute of Marriage obsolete?  I know that back in the Middle Ages, when the Church ruled the land and made the laws,  it seemed to be a good idea for people to have a relationship solemnized by said Church.  But with more unmarried couple living together these days, both straight and gay, Maybe we should rethink our ideas of what relationships should be, and if Marriage is needed any more.  I see no problem if a couple wants to have their relationship blessed by a
church, but if I was in love with someone that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with and have kids with, why should I need a piece of paper to legitimize my relationship? And if and my significant other wanted to go that route, we should have the right to do so without critcism.

ARGH!

Yesterday, My desktop computer died. You push the power button, nothing. I'm typing this on my laptop. I had everything backed up except recent downloads, so no problem except.......

Since I have a lot of stuff, I backed it up on DVD's but since this laptop has only a CD drive, it won't read CD's. So this evening, I had to go over to my Sister's and use her comp to email all the small stuff to me. All the big stuff, my music, videos, and pics, I wasn't able to because they were too big to email. Tomorrow, I'm going to take the comp to the shop, and hopfully, it can be fixed.

OH BOO HOO

I'm sure not feeling sorry for those CEO's who are crying that they can't live on "only"the $500,000 a year they are limited to making if they take bailout money from the Government. I don't think I've even seen that much money my whole life combined. The nerve of them, running their companies down the drain then using the bailout money to have parties, buy planes, and give themselves obscene bonuses.

So Close But So Far Away..

You really have to feel sorry for the Arizona Cardinals. They were 2 minutes from winning the Super Bowl, But the Steelers had a few incredible plays on their game winning drive. But the Cards and their fans should hold their heads high. After years of being the laughing stock of the NFL, they had a nice trip through the post season, which should serve them well. They made vast Improvements this year, going from a losing record to being Division winners. Sometimes, a heartbreaking loss can make a team stronger, and give them the fire to finish the job next season.

Talk About Being Fruitful and Multiplying!

After reading about that lady who gave birth to 8 babies last week, I can only say:

LADY, WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!   You are a single mother, and already had 6 other kids. 1 more would be OK, but taking fertility drugs almost guarantees multiple births!  Your mother has been quoted as saying that you were obsessed with having kids.  As a single mother, how the hell do you expect to support 14 kids?  With the economy the way it is, you should have been doing some thinking.

Damn Damn Damn!

If you're wondering why I havn't done a radio show lately, it's because my Uncle is staying with us in my computer room. The heat in his camper is out (I think he just doesn't know how a thermostat works) So he's staying here. He goes to bed at 5 at night, and if you make the smallest noise, he starts cussing. Hopefully something will happen soon...

After the New England Patriots completed a 16-0 regular season last year, today the Detroit Lions completed the first 0-16 season, bettering (?) the 1977 Tampa BayBucs 0-14 season. Everything that could go wrong did. No offense, bad defense, and all around bad play by everyone. Not a record I'd want to be associated with!

The Things We Do For Love

I saw this thing on the news yesterday where a woman donated a kidney to her Fiancee.  That is truly a love story!  Could you love someone so much that you'd donate a body part?  If the one I loved needed a transplant and I was compatible, I would, but since I only have one kidney, I couldn't do that!

Hunting Season

This week, deer hunting season has come to West Virginia.  There are plenty of hunters around here, and it sounds like a war zone outside, with gunfire on a regular basis.  The noise hurts my ears, and scares my dogs like crazy. My Dad's been a hunter all my life, so I should be use to it, but my poor ears!

A Cold Night

Last night was not a very comfortable night here. Our furnace broke down so the only heat we had was a little electic heater inthe Parents' bathroom and my electric blanket. It was in the 20's here last night, so I thought I was gonna freeze! In my room, you could see your breath! The electric blanket worked good, but sometimes in the middle of the night, you gotta get up! Thankfully, my Dad got the furnace fixed, so things are a bit warmer tonight.

Election Wrap up

Now that the election's over, here are a few observations:

Obama will be a good President, if he surrounds himself with good advisers, and sticks to his guns when disagreeing with the far left members of the Party.

He also needs to keep his word about working with the Republicans. Even though he's going to have a big majority in Congress, no need to give the opposition any ammunition.

Race didn't seem to be as a big matter as it was supposed to be.

Other things:

One Republican I'm glad is definately gone:

Elizabeth Dole: How can you call a Sunday School teacher Godless?

2 I hope are gone:

Sen. Saxby Chambliss of Georgia: How can you live with yourself calling
Max Cleeland unpatriotic? He took a grenade for his fellow soldiers in
Nam, losing both his legs and 1 arm. If that isn't patriotic, I dont know what is.

Rep. Virgil Goode of Virginia: Racist SOB who slammed Keith Ellison for being
a Muslim.

What were her constituents thinking:

Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota: is 53% of America Unpatriotic?

2 in the wrong place at the wrong time:

Rep. Chris Shays of Connecticut. This year's version of Lincoln Chafee. Good
guy, wrong party, wrong state.

Senator Gordon Smith of Oregon: See above.

Get out and Vote!

For all my American readers:

Tuesday is Election day. If you're registered, get out and vote! Doesn't matter who you vote for, Democrat, Republican or whatnot, just do it! It's a right and a responsibility. If you don't vote and don't like the results, you have no reason to bitch about it.
